UAV Test Site: CATUAV Tech Center

Year: 2011 to 2014.

Project type: Private.

Participants: 1 Enterprises.

With the spread of UAS technology and the adoption of drones by the mass market, CATUAV forecasted in 2012 that more restrictive legislations will be soon in place for UAV operation. Furthermore, UAS would need a safe environment (both in ground an air) to develop and test this technology, and probably also evaluate and certify it in the mid-term. Because of this, CATUAV started the design of its own UAV Test Site, the CATUAV Tech Center (CTC).
This was a big project that involved:
• Selection and acquisition of suitable lands to build the facilities.
• Achievement of all necessary permissions and requirements to be able to build them in an unpopulated non urban land.
• Design of all Test Site facilities and management of its construction.
• Achievement of a segregated airspace over the Test Site facilities.
• Business Plan and Business Development of the Test Site.
CATUAV Tech Center become a reality in 2014, and the company stablishes there its headquarters. After its success, it becomes BCN Drone Center, as it is known nowadays.
